media center performance horrendous

Media Center - Performance Horrendous

Is it me or is Media Centers Performance truly horrendous in BETA 2? I just launched it and nothing is up yet, but the process is running and eating up all my RAM. 67,160 k of it too.

Everything works pretty fast for me, but am I the only one that lost the "full fidelity" of 2005? I mean the fluid menu transtions, the pretty effects, etc. Is that just off now until an update to the console comes out?

Oops, sorry I didn't clarify on that one. The full fidelity loss is when using the Xbox 360 MCX.

Hi Andre,
It uses about 400mb for me! Vista uses about 450mb when it's just logged in and sitting about doing nothing... But then again I haven't modified any settings in order to save on memory etc.
It's surprising, I would have though that game architechture would have lead itself excellent to Media Centre, I'm not quite sure how they have gone about designing it but it's slower than any game I've tried lately.
Maybe it should be re-written in WinFX, or is that currently in progress?
Nick.

Gonna have to replace a few computers soon...

Snap!
:-(

At the moment, with Windows Aero enabled, the RAM stands at about 450MB thereabouts as well. Without Aero and just the Classic skin, it runs up to about 350MB with most of the non-essential services not running.
Gonna have to replace a few computers soon...

Again, you misinterpreted - I'm happy with that amount of RAM - I was on about two of my more "basic" machines, 1 with 128MB and the other with 256MB - got a few others with 1GB+ but I was on about those particular machines.
But at the moment, they've done a lot of work since 5308 so I'm more than pleased.

I have almost the same configuration and only 512MB of memory and it works without any stuttering. The PQ is not as good as on an XP system. I believe that ATI has separate video card dirvers for Vista Beta 2 so try and find them if you are not using them already. Did you have any problems with the same configuration using MCE 2005? Do you have any stuttering problems if you only use one display? Does your Audio also stutter? Do you have the same problem with recorded TV or with playing of DVDs in Media Center?

It's surprising, I would have though that game architechture would have lead itself excellent to Media Centre, I'm not quite sure how they have gone about designing it but it's slower than any game I've tried lately.
Maybe it should be re-written in WinFX, or is that currently in progress?

Again, you misinterpreted - I'm happy with that amount of RAM - I was on about two of my more "basic" machines, 1 with 128MB and the other with 256MB - got a few others with 1GB+ but I was on about those particular machines.
But at the moment, they've done a lot of work since 5308 so I'm more than pleased.

JW, My Dell Dimension E510 has on-board integrated video (Intel 945G express) and both Vista-32 and Vista-64 have WDDM drivers that support it. Glass works fine on this system.
Also,
the system has integrated Sigmatel audio wich is also supported as a 'high-definition audio device' in both 32 and 64-bit Vista.
With regards to MCE, Live TV pays just fine. No audio or video stuttering at all. However, I have yet to get the darn ting to buyn a recorded TV show to a DVD. It gets to the part where you decide whether you want a Data or Video dvd, then it just hangs.
I have not taken the time yet to try palying a recorded DVD. "JW" wrote in message I have a Intel graphics chip on my MOBO. Please respond to the last two questions in my previous post. "Anthony Davis" wrote in message In XP MCE I have no issues what so ever, everything works fine.
